Manchester United lifted the first trophy of the Jose Mourinho era with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Southampton at Wembley yesterday but the thrilling match was overshadowed by yet another refereeing mishap.
Manolo Gabbiadini opened the scoring at Wembley but saw his effort ruled-out for offside, though replays showed the Italian striker was not infringing the rules of play- and the decision later denied the January signing a hat-trick, as he went on to net a brace.
Remarkably, the favourable decision awarded to Manchester United continues a concerning trend for the season- and Jose Mourinho cannot be allowed any complaints between now and the end of the season.
Staggering, Manchester United have scored eight goals that have been offside this season and have seen nine goals for the opposition incorrectly ruled-out for offside- insanely giving them 17 goals where they’ve benefitted from poor refereeing.
The age-old argument of things cancelling themselves out at the end of the season surely cannot be used here and it’s further fuel to the fire in the debate towards video replays, which much surely be just around the corner.
