Nagoya Grampus recorded their first victory in the group stages of their AFC Champions League campaign, thrashing Al Ain 4-0 on Tuesday. Two goals from Mu Kanazaki helped Nagoya move up to second in Group F after three games.
Playing a re-arranged fixture due to the natural disaster in Japan, Nagoya welcomed the United Arab Emirates club to Toyota Stadium, hoping to claim their first win in this year’s competition.
Nagoya began well and Australian international Josh Kennedy set up Kanazaki for the opener after 27 minutes.
The visitors struggled to cope with Kanazaki’s runs from midfield and the Japanese international made it 2-0 with a header shortly before half time.
Things got worse for Al Ain when Ibrahima Keita inadvertently turned a shot from Takahiro Masukawa into his own net.
The visitors suffered another setback when defender Fares Al Saadi was sent off after bringing down Jungo Fujimoto in the 76th minute.
Fujimoto curled in the resulting free kick to complete a comfortable 4-0 win for the hosts.
