da blaze casino: An update has emerged on Glasgow Rangers and their plans to bolster their side at Ibrox in the summer transfer window…
What’s the latest on Josh Maja to Rangers?
da supremo: According to Football Insider, the Light Blues are eyeing up a swoop to sign Bordeaux centre-forward Josh Maja at the end of the season as Ross Wilson is preparing to improve Michael Beale’s squad.
The report claims that the Gers have been monitoring the former Sunderland striker and have a ‘genuine interest’ in the Nigeria international.
It is stated that his contract with the second-division French club expires at the end of the current campaign and this means that the marksman could be available on a free transfer.
What does their interest in Maja mean for Roofe?
Rangers bringing the Academy of Light graduate to Ibrox in the summer transfer window could result in an exit for current Light Blues centre-forward Kemar Roofe.
At the age of 30, the ex-Leeds gem could find himself on the chopping block if Alfredo Morelos pens a new contract and Antonio Colak remains in Glasgow, as he could end up being the fourth choice option in that position whilst heading into the final years of his career.
The Jamaica international has missed a whopping 59 competitive matches through injury or illness since the start of the 2020/21 campaign. Bordeaux’s star, meanwhile, has only been absent for 18 games in the same period.
This suggests that the Nigerian dynamo would offer more in terms of reliability as the current Gers striker has been too much of a liability in recent seasons.
Maja, who is six years younger than Roofe, would also come in with room to grow and improve, something the experienced forward does not have the luxury of.
Jermain Defoe, who played alongside the attacker at Sunderland, once hailed the youngster’s potential, saying:
“When he trained with the first team he showed such great awareness – he knew when to pass it, had a great touch – and although he’s not got electric pace, he’s two steps ahead of everyone which means he’s got an immediate advantage.
“The gift Josh has is rare and if he builds on it, the sky’s the limit.”
Maja has showcased his quality in front of goal in Ligue 2 this term with 11 goals and three assists, whilst creating 1.2 chances per match for his teammates, in 22 starts for Bordeaux.
This shows that the goal machine has already been able to prove his ability at the top end of the pitch on a regular basis and still has many years left ahead of him to develop and improve, potentially under Beale’s management.
Therefore, the ex-Fulham striker could be a terrific addition to the Rangers squad in the short and long term.
