Wigan’s new signing Ali Al-Habsi gifted Premier League new boys a point in what was a disappointing game at the DW Stadium.
Both teams were making mistakes in what was an error prone first half that was short of quality and entertainment.
Whatever Roberto Martinez and Paul Lambert said at half time certainly had the desired effect as the game restarted at a frenetic pace. For all the gusto and huff and puff chances were at the premium and although the Canaries were controlling the tempo of the game, it was Victor Moses and his pace was causing problems for visitors and look the most likely to score.
Both sides can neither be accused of resting on their laurels and showed a great amount of endeavour but couldn’t get pass the finishing line therefore giving both sides a share of the spoils.
The result was certainly a real improvement on last season’s opening day at the DW Stadium but Roberto Martinez will know that he will need to bring in new faces before the end of the transfer window, if the Latics are to avoid another season of struggle.
